There's no quick and easy fix when it comes to losing weight. No single road map. No short cuts. No detours. No absolute formula.  Even if you do manage to lose weight faster than most people, there's still a chance that there would be a setback - something that will negatively affect your metabolism.

Newest studies and evidences say that the speed of your weight loss can be a factor in the result of your basal metabolic rate (the calorie burn at rest). When people lose weight quickly through intense calorie restriction or working out too much, the metabolism slows down. It is because our body fights back by holding on to energy by reducing the number of calories you burn.

And when this damage to the metabolism occurs, it would now be harder to keep the pounds off later.

So, what now? Until these studies are more definitive, Dr. Roshini Rajapaksa, medical editor of health. com and an assistant professor of medicine at the NYU School of Medicine, suggests the following:

1. Slim down slowly – Slow and steady weight-loss plan is a more sustainable lifestyle change than a crash diet. Worst cases, crash diets can also induce unwanted hypoglycemia!

2. Consult with a dietician for a tailored nutrition plan – Experts recommend losing at a rate of one pound per week, by creating a calorie deficit of roughly 500 calories a day.

3. Make time for strength training - Increasing your muscle mass will help you burn more calories at rest. Resistance training plus metabolic conditioning (Cardio)had always been the best way to lose weight appropriately.

Whichever expert opinion you take, remember though that that metabolism is partly genetic, which means even if two people lose same amount of weight, the effect and the response of their bodies could be different.
